Luxury Holidays Lombardy
Lombardy neatly represents the whole of Italy on a smaller scale: the force of creativity and ideas is evident in every field from art and culture to style and fashion and most particularly in the ingenuity behind man’s capacity to engineer and transform the environment. There are a number of ways to see this for yourself: travel through the countryside and the tree-lined plains of Lower Lombardy, or venture along wood and forest trails and scale mountain peaks, or perhaps follow the course of a river and stop to rest in a lakeside village; wander around cities of art and explore the many castles, tiny villages and ancient abbeys. Next stop on the itinerary has to be the area of Franciacorta, where you will taste prize-winning wines and rediscover the delights of traditional foods. Finally of course, there is Milan, the vibrant heart and capital city of the region around which everything else rotates.
The city is well known as an important centre of high finance and the single-minded determination of its inhabitants to work hard but also play hard. Apart from its leading role as a power base, Milan is also a gateway to the magnificent Alps and is close to other fine spectacles of nature, such as lake Como. These are the places that have made Lombardy famous, but there are also other places that deserve mentioning: the Padana plain, the valleys around Brescia, the sloping lanes and paths leading up to the old part of Bergamo and the Royal Palace in Monza. Endless new places to discover.
