Piedmont is a region where past and future, art and food culture, craftsmanship and research all combine impulsively, no doubt helped by its exceptional natural scenery that inspires dreams, suggesting mystery and adventure. The essence and soul of Piedmont can be discerned in its snow-covered mountains and exhilarating wines, its industrial towns and hard-working peasant farming culture; were it to speak, it would relate the history of the Royal House of Savoy, the Unification of Italy and the wonderful city that is Turin. All these combined together give the visitor a perfect outline of the region’s art, culture and landscape. The Alps provide an impressive regal background to the area between Turin and Aosta and the Gran Paradiso National Park.
Visitors flock to these mountains in both summer and winter to enjoy exploring its infinite number of hiking trails, enchanting woodlands, castles and medieval villages, but most of all the hundreds of kilometers for both downhill and cross-country skiing. Piedmont is also home to fifteen Royal residences that constitute an important part of Europe’s artistic and cultural heritage, and were thus recognized by Unesco as world Heritage sites in 1997.
The ‘Sette Monti Sacri’ (seven sacred mountains) are dotted with gardens, fortifications and over four hundred museums. Last but not least, the whole region overflows with traditional culinary delights to be tasted in ‘slow-food’ style, in excellent wineries and prestigious restaurants.
