Sestriere
Sestrière lies between Val Chisone e l’Alta Valle Susa at an altitude of 2035 metres; it is the queen of the wonderful alpine Via Lattea. It has long been one of the main centres of skiing in Italy (since the 1930s!) and of course hosted the Winter Olympics in 2006. The pistes and ski areas such as Kandhar, Banchetta, Fraiteve, Sise and Rio Nero all have modern ski lift systems combined with a widespread network of snow canons that guarantee good skiing always. In nearby Monterotta, there is a ten kilometre-long cross-country track, in addition to the splendid walking routes using snowshoes. There is also an ice rink stadium, a dog-sledding excursion centre and an impressive indoor pool. Sestrière is not only a winter tourist resort; in the summer too you can come to relax in the many Health spas and sports centres, go hiking or climb up to the edge of glaciers to take in the magnificent mountain sun of the Alps. Remember also that Sestrière is a hotspot for the high society crowd.
