Selva Val Gardena

Selva Gardena – the name derives from the latin ‘silva’, meaning wood – is set in the fabulous dolomite landscape between the mountain masses of Sassolungo, Puez and the Sella Group. It has firmly established itself as a prime location for both winter and summer vacations and at an altitude of 1500m is situated at the heart of the giant ski merry-go-round known as the ‘Sella Ronda’. Selva has endless kilometers of snow-covered tracks to delight downhill devotees; but there is also ice-skating, bobsleigh, snowshoeing, alpine skiing and ice climbing. In the summer, Selva is best known for its vast number of mountain walking trails of varying difficulty. You can either stroll leisurely in the sun in close contact with nature, or try excursions on the breathtaking ‘vie ferrate’, or on adventurous Nordic walking and mountain bike trails. You will be struck here by the exceptional charm of the Dolomites in every season, including the realm of art and culture. One of the gems of the valley is Castel Gardena, between Selva and Santa Cristina, a Renaissance style castle renovated by its current owners, the Franchetti barons.
