Lignano Sabbiadoro

Lignano Sabbiadoro is about halfway between Venice and Trieste; it is a haven of relaxation and fun, both of which can be found along its eight kilometers of golden beach, gently caressed by the lapping of sea water, as well as in walks in the ancient pinewoods to marvel at the villas, built by famous architects and immersed in the green countryside. You might try walking along the harbor front, or take a look at the numerous restaurants, sit at one of the many open-air cafés or browse the charming shops. How about a relaxing visit to the sea-water thermal spa where you can bathe in a magical potion of water, golden sand and algae? Alternatively, get more in touch with nature by trying the eighteen-hole golf course, open all year round; take a boat trip on a “batana”, one of the flat-bottomed lagoon boats that will take you slowly but surely to the old fishing village of Marano and into the nature reserves of “Foci dello Stella” and “Canal Novo”. Lastly, at night Lignano lights up with a thousand lights from concerts, cultural events, pubs and fashion gatherings. Diving into the lively cosmopolitan crowd is like diving into the sea. Further must-see places include the Votive church of Santa Maria which has well preserved late 15th century frescoes, the Liberty style architecture of Villa Gattolin on the seafront and the home of the late Italian actor Villa Sordi, who discovered his favourite film set right here, in the midst of nature.
